The Fairmont Château Laurier consistently receives high praise for its beautiful historic setting, welcoming and friendly staff, and central location in Ottawa. While many guests highlight the luxurious rooms and overall experience, recurring concerns relate to inconsistent housekeeping, dated facilities in some areas, and occasional issues with valet service.
I had an excellent stay at the Fairmont Château Laurier. From the moment I arrived, the experience was perfect. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. Our room was luxurious, clean, and we had a gorgeous view overlooking Parliament. The hotel staff on every occasion were welcoming, friendly, and very helpful. Thank you for making my time in Ottawa so incredible. I can’t wait to come back!
Arrived and was so impressed with front lobby and staff. Albertina was wonderful and able to get us checked in early so we were able to drop bags in our room. Met Catherine who gave us a private tour - so wonderful to meet and spend time with her! Room was spacious and clean, we all thought the beds were outstanding. All hotel staff were pleasant and helpful! Just an amazing experience!
We have been here for four days and have found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. That said, the hotel itself feels quite dated. For example, the gym still has carpet, which makes it feel unclean and not well suited for a fitness space. We typically choose to stay here because of our Accor status. Unfortunately, a recent housekeeping experience has made it difficult for us to consider returning. Up until Sunday, our room was cleaned thoroughly and met expectations. However, on Sunday several basic items were not replaced — including towels, coffee cups and glasses, stir sticks, cream, coffee, and other standard amenities. While I understand that oversights can happen, this felt like a lack of care and attention to detail. It was particularly disappointing given that a tip had been left. Experiences like this leave a negative impression, not only for guests but also for the many staff members who are working hard to provide good service. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and used to improve consistency in housekeeping standards moving
Great location, can walk everywhere, and is very close to the canal and other major attractions. Staff were very friendly, respectful, and helpful. Beautiful historic decor... totally awesome. Restaurant/Dining lounge menu may not be to all tastes, but there are multiple choice close by, including Milestones (next door), and the market square area. Was an enjoyable experience.
I loved my stay. The room was spacious, had a wonderful view of Parliament Hill, and all the amenities were accessible. Breakfast at Zoe's was great one morning. The chic and style of the hotel is classy but everything is fairly modern and made staying for 3 nights a breeze. The location is central to a lot and made it easy for Uber to pick us up and for us to walk to nearby spots. All hotel staff were friendly, and accomodating. The art gallery and cafe on the main level are a cool addition. The reason that I gave 4 total stars over 5, is because on TWO seperate occasions, Valet came and asked me what kind of car I had, and for me to describe my keys. Both times they put my car keys on the wrong valet label number hook, and I had to go into the office and find it. To me this is unacceptable, because on TWO seperate occasions I thought my car was missing or not taken care of. This should be a no brainier. This didn't happen at any of the other Fairmont hotels we stayed at, and happened two seperate times here.
Absolutely loved this staycation! From the moment I arrived, everything exceeded expectations. The room was spotless, spacious, and thoughtfully designed, with an incredibly comfortable bed and high-quality linens that made it hard to leave in the morning. The hotel was decorated beautifully for the holidays, adding a warm, festive touch that made the stay feel extra special. Its central location made getting around effortless, whether heading out for dining, shopping, or a simple stroll. What truly sets this place apart, though, is the staff, every single person was fantastic, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. A special thank-you to Claude, who consistently goes above and beyond to make guests feel cared for and at home. And of course, a major perk was meeting Stewart, the resident dog, who brought instant smiles and charm to the experience. This hotel strikes the perfect balance between comfort, style, and hospitality. Highly recommend.
Details matter. I was truly disappointed with this specific Fairmont. I will start with the bad. The room feels very dated. Many items appear poorly repaired or in need of full replacement, and the shower water pressure is extremely low. The valet service was the worst and rudest experience I have ever had at a hotel. I called ahead and was told the wait would be 40 minutes. I came down after 35 minutes, expecting another 10 to 15 minutes at most, and was then told it would be another hour. Thankfully I did not have a flight to catch. This was completely unacceptable. The valet staff were among the rudest I have encountered. The food, which was breakfast only, was just okay. The salad was dressed with bottled Italian dressing, which was disappointing. The potatoes were very cold. The sourdough bread was excellent, but nothing else met expectations for the price point. The swimming pool was too cold, and the hotel has no sauna or jacuzzi. Again, very limited amenities for what you are paying. Now the good. Staff in other areas were excellent, with the exception of valet. The restaurant wait staff were particularly helpful and professional. The view from our room was beautiful. The location is excellent, with great walking options nearby. Overall, I was very disappointed and would not confidently recommend this hotel.
My cousin and I love to take yearly trips to different locations and we really enjoyed our stay! The location was great for getting anywhere in the city. We were going to Ottawa for a concert and chose this location to stay. The hotel itself is beautiful with rich history. It was decorated for Christmas making it even more welcoming. The staff were Excellent! We especially loved our bartenders and waiters. Overall great experience that made us want to come back.
My husband and I had a very cozy weekend here to celebrate our anniversary. The Christmas decorations were beautiful. The breakfast croissants and homemade preserves were 10/10. Loved the view and the two bathrooms in or room, which was unexpected! Housekeeping was prompt to respond to any request. Our only complaint was the noise level in the rooms. You could hear everything from the corridor and from the adjoining room, but we put on some white noise and slept fine. Overall, we had a good stay and would definitely come back.
Overall, a very satisfactory experience. A beautiful building, with plenty of character and interesting rooms to explore. Staff were polite, professional, courteous. I was witness to a situation where they had to deal with a volatile guest, and was impressed with calm demeanor. Our room was spotless, and smelled great. The bathroom was warm, and very clean. The rain-head shower did need more pressure to function properly - but no shortage of hot water. Housekeeping tidied our room every day and made our bed. They did an excellent job as well. We ate in the on site restaurant (Zoe's) and had a very expensive, but delicious meal. Serving sizes were a little small for what was paid for (in particular, the protein amounts), but the flavour profiles were spot on. If anything could be improved upon it would be the on-site cafe. Poor choice of coffee beans and bad preparation made for some mediocre espressos. The food was also quite underwhelming - bordering on poor. Another item would be the exorbitant parking fees - which, as best as I can tell, appear to be randomly set. Otherwise, we were very appreciative of our treatment and would love to return.
